1、 Classification of lightning protection and grounding systems for buildings

Buildings should be classified into three categories based on their importance, nature of use, likelihood of lightning accidents, and consequences, in accordance with lightning protection requirements

1. The first type of lightning protection building

Buildings that manufacture, use, or store large quantities of explosive materials such as explosives, gunpowder, detonating explosives, and pyrotechnic devices can cause explosions due to electric sparks, resulting in significant damage and casualties.

2. The second type of lightning protection building

Buildings under national key cultural relics protection, national office buildings, large exhibition and exposition buildings, large train stations, state hotels, national archives, important water supply pump rooms in large cities, and buildings of great significance to the national economy and equipped with a large number of electronic devices.

3. The third type of lightning protection building

Buildings under provincial key cultural relics protection, provincial archives, industrial buildings with high expected lightning strikes, residential and office buildings, and other general civil buildings.

Installation method and requirements for lightning protection system in the second lightning protection grounding system

There are lightning protection systems such as lightning protection nets, lightning rods, independent lightning rods, and lightning rod down conductors.

2. Installation of lightning rod

(1) Install 1-3 lightning rods on the chimney according to its different heights. It is required to add a disconnecting clip at a height of 1.8m from the ground and protect it with angle steel. The lightning rods should be hot-dip galvanized.

(2) The installation of lightning rods on buildings and on roofs and side walls should be carried out in accordance with relevant standards. The production of lightning rods should include the full weight of the base plate, auxiliary plate, bolts, etc. The lightning rod is made by the installation and construction unit according to the drawings.

(3) The installation of lightning rods on metal containers and on the top of metal containers and oil tank walls should be carried out in accordance with relevant standard requirements.


3. The installation of independent lightning rods can be divided into two types: reinforced concrete ring pole independent lightning rods and reinforced structure independent lightning rods.

The grounding system includes grounding electrodes, outdoor grounding busbars, indoor grounding busbars, grounding jumper wires, frame grounding, anti-static, etc.

The commonly used materials for grounding systems include equilateral angle steel, round steel, flat steel, galvanized equilateral angle steel, galvanized round steel, galvanized flat steel, copper plate, bare copper wire, steel pipe, etc.

1. The production and installation of grounding electrodes include steel pipe grounding electrodes, angle steel grounding electrodes, round steel grounding electrodes, flat steel grounding electrodes, copper plate grounding electrodes, etc. The commonly used ones are steel pipe grounding electrode and angle steel grounding electrode.

(2) The grounding electrode is horizontally laid and all grounding devices are made of galvanized flat steel, and all welding points are coated with asphalt. The grounding resistance should be less than 4 Ω. If it exceeds, the length of the grounding device should be added;

2. Most outdoor grounding busbars are laid underground. The connection of the grounding wire adopts lap welding, and the lap length is twice the thickness of the flat steel (and at least 3 edges are welded together); Round steel is 6 times the diameter; When connecting round steel to flat steel, its length is 6 times the diameter of the round steel; When welding flat steel with steel pipes or angle steel, in order to ensure reliable connection, in addition to welding on both sides of the contact area, arc clips bent from steel strips should also be welded, or steel strips should be directly bent into an arc (or right angle) shape and welded to steel pipes or angle steel. When backfilling soil, there should be no stones, building materials, or garbage mixed in.

3. Indoor grounding busbar installation: Most indoor grounding busbars are exposed, while the parts connecting branch lines to equipment are mostly buried. Construction must comply with relevant regulatory requirements.
